PAST WORKSHOPS
What is Art? Childrens Tour : As part of the Armory Show
In an effort to infuse children and young adults with an excitement for and understanding of art, and to broaden their concept of "What is art?", No Longer Empty will offer tours of distinctive art and cultural sites downtown. All tours will be engaging and interactive with children and teenagers sharing their views of each exhibit. Activities are tailored to meet the interests and ages of each group (Group II ages 6 - 9 and group II ages 10 - 14). Children under twelve must be accompanied by an adult.
Chelsea Day: A Day at the Galleries
12 - 2pm starting at The Chelsea Art’s building (526 West 26th Street).
The group will visit two galleries and an artist’s studio to understand the art works’s themes and aesthetics in context of the exhibition with one or two pieces studied in depth (according to the ages of the group). Afterwards, the group will visit a nearby artist’s studio for a perspective of how and where work is created. The group will end at the meeting place at 2pm.
Downtown: Inside the Artist Studio
12- 2pm at Billy’s Bakery (75 Franklin Street btwn Broadway & Church Street)
Children and parents will get an inside view of how art is created. The group will visit three artist studios and have the opportunity to see art works at various stages of completion and talk to artists about the process.
Workshop will be lead by Jodie Dinapoli. In Spain, Dinapoli worked at the Department of Education of the Fine Arts Museum San Pio V and Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno (IVAM) leading tours for children and adults.
Personal Records: At Never Can Say Goodbye Exhibition
3 sessions: 12pm, 1pm, 2pm
In this afternoon of creativity for kids ages 6-12, No Longer Empty workshop leaders will guide children in a process of creative play and art making, with each child inventing their own unique, imaginary music group and hand crafting an album cover to reflect the style of their fantasy band.
Combining movement, music, visual art, and group dialogue, this hands-on workshop will take children through a process of self-discovery and personal expression. Children will leave with a completed art piece as well as a deeper understanding of music, art, and design, plus increased confidence in their innate creativity and personal style.
Workshop lead by Christina deRoos
Something Out of Nothing Art Day: At Invisible Dog Exhibition
November 7th, 2009
Museum Adventures: Lead by Claire Munday of Claire's Creative Adventures, one afternoon children explored numerous facets of the exhibition while learning more about the fundamentals of art and their own creativity.
As a group they made their own video of “flying” lesson, they did an improvisation with their own invisible dog leashes, an “I spy” to introduce them to the exhibition pieces, a lesson in photography, a freight elevator ride (to the 2nd floor where hot chocolate will be served for fun and to keep warm) and finally a drawing lesson for creating an image out of shapes (the dog).
No Longer Empty has arranged two types of programs to contribute meaningfully into the existing neighborhood. In groups of ten, these small and intimate sessions are meant to give children a hands-on experience using the theme of the exhibition.
Tours One program is our ongoing invitations for (local) schools to come to our space for a tour lead by Manon Slome. These tours will give a general understanding of the exhibition.
Workshops The other program is an indepth and hands on workshop that gives children a rich memorable experience of contemporary art. No Longer Empty is orchestrating creative and inspiring art discoveries for children 5 years and older.
With both programs, NLE is aiming to give children a unique and exciting discovery of contemporary art inside their community.
