Y.DOT : YOUTH DOCENT PROGRAM

Y.Dot is an educational and professional experience with contemporary art for high school students. The program trains teens to design, lead their own tours of the exhibition to their families, friends and visitors. Known as "Docents", teens also work as part of the organization, attend workshops, and visit other exhibitions and artist studios. This paid 9-week program fosters professional skills such as critical thinking, decision-making, public speaking, and responsibility.

Led by Director of Programming, Jodie Dinapoli with the Education Department team, docents participate in weekly learning sessions, operate the front desk or art gallery with NLE staff, attend art-making workshops, visit artist studios and other museum exhibitions. Docents also attend a media literacy workshop, integral to developing an understanding of art in the contemporary context.

NO LONGER BORED for SCHOOLS & AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

No Longer Bored for Schools and After School Programs is a program for groups aged K-12 designed and lead by NLE educational staff.  Each exhibition is site specific; the art in the exhibition directly connects to the space and the surrounding neighborhood.  As a result, every exhibition tour is unique and created specifically so students examine the relationship between the art, the space and the surrounding community. During group visits, students discover and explore the art exhibition participate in an age-appropriate tour.  An art-making workshop is offered where students can further reflect on the art exhibition by creating their own pieces of art work to take home.
