Art Yo' Trash Workshop with Local Project (2 of 3)
Part two of a three-part series of public sculpture.
Part two of a three-part series of public sculpture. The public is invited to join Queens-based artist Daniel Valle in collecting, discussing and collectively sculpting large pieces of trash collected from the neighborhood. Ladiccio is the creator of the Blue Bus Project, which she describes as "a cultural vehicle that shutters the confines of the insular art world by bringing artistic expressions to the streets while promoting and encouraging social and political change." The sculpture will respond to or connect with the sculpture created during part one of the series, and will travel to Long Island City on a trash pilgrimage after Jameco Exchange closes. Local Project, an arts space from Long Island City, brings this project to Jameco Exchange.
Parts one and two of this three-part series take place at Jameco Exchange on Saturday, July 2, and Friday, July 8, from 3 to 6pm. Part three of this series will take place at Local Project on Tuesday, July 19, and will consist of an open studio workshop from 10am to 6pm, during which time participants from workshops one and two will be invited to work with artists Daniel Valle and Annalisa Ladiccio to finalize the collective sculpture made of trash. Upon completion, the sculpture will be displayed as part of Local Project’s exhibition Paradise in the City, on view through July 30th. Local Project received support for this initiative from the Citizens Committee for New York City.
