Join us for a weekend featuring a performances by spoken word artists, a theater event organized by artist Melanie Crean and The Theater of The Oppressed and a reading and a writing marathon by The Bronx Council of The Arts. Come and participate!
3:00-4:00pm Once Upon a Time in The Bronx, an interactive theatre performance created by Melanie Crean and The Theatre of the Oppressed with high school students from BronxWorks after-school program.
5:00-6:00pm Spoken word, interdisciplinary performance by MoveSchemers
7:00pm - Nuyorican Cinco de Mayo Poetry Reading. With readings by Miguel Algarin, Jesus Papoleto Melendez and Samuel Diaz Carrion.
1:00-4:00 Family day! Hosted by the Bronx Children's Museum
Collaborative Paradise Mural! Participate with your family members, and other families, in the making a mural collage inspired by the theme of Paradise.
Festive Birds and Fish! Make your own birds and fish using common art-making materials in a whole new way!
Sun Prints <var></var>in the Garden! Join us in the Andrew Freedman Home garden to create sun prints using sunlight!
3:00-5:00pm WordForward: Adaptation hosted by Flaco Navaja!
The audience votes for the winner of this competition of wordsmiths. Writers, poets and storytellers write and perform on the spot, vying for the prize of WordForward Champion.
The Bronx Writers Center, a program of the Bronx Council on the Arts, hosts this entertaining event, as part of its Big Read in the Bronx.
