Opening & artist performance: Remix Rememory
Saturday, December 03 2016
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Please join us for the opening reception of Remix Rememory, a site-responsive exhibition featuring works that assemble, reclaim and reimagine histories from Southeastern Queens and beyond. The exhibition is curated by NLE Lab 2016: Zalika Azim, Tara Foster, Jordan Greenberg, Abbie Hebein, Shu Cao Mo and Candice Strongwater.
Opening Reception: Saturday, December from 5 - 7pm with a live performance at 6pm.
Performing as a group, artists Laura Castro (Vocal presentation), Neal Desai (Percussion), Lan Ding Liu (Violin) and Robert Craddock (Electronics) perform as “Charlatan.” The performance expands on their multi-media installation Paper Body Armor (2016), which is inspired by Bamana/Dogon hunters shirts, and encourages passersby to try on embellished cast-paper vests and reflect on aspects of the 21st century city life they wish to be protected from. The performance is conceived as proto-poetic utterances embraced by post-notational soundscapes, that seek to find pathways through the liminal junctures of existence.
Location: 89-02 165th St. (between Jamaica and 89th Ave.), Jamaica, New York
Subway: F to 169th Street; E, J, Z to Jamaica Center; LIRR to Jamaica Station
