Championing Water: Art Activism, Science, and the Seaport

Saturday, October 24 2015
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Come learn about the importance of water in our series of family-friendly workshops brought to you by the Center for Urban Pedagogy, NYC DEP, and the Waterfront Alliance!

The Center for Urban Pedagogy will lead us in an exploration of the secret underground workings of the water system in our city. You will have the chance to test out a working model of the city’s sewer system that lets you track the journey that water goes through in our big city.

The NYC Department for Environmental Protection will be leading a workshop about our friends in the sea - the fishes! Inspired by the sea, the DEP will be showing people how to make their own fish print. Lastly the Waterfront Alliance will be present to talk to people about their work to promote the livelihood and preservation of New York City's incredible waterfront. Come find out about a series of fun activities from the Waterfront Alliance, NYC DEP, and other organizations championing water.

Kids and families are also invited to explore the labyrinth of touchable-art at our on-site art installation, Teresa Diehl: Breathing Waters. During the month of October we will explore the relationship of water to our city, through family art-making workshops inspired by this art piece and the Seaport.
