Shaun Leonardo - Testimony #1 Experiences with Police

Saturday, December 16 | 2-4pm


A public-participatory performance with Shaun Leonardo, where guests will locate intensely contested current affairs within their bodies. Utilizing the shifting perspectives embedded in testimony, news reports, and memory as a backdrop, participants will be asked to translate their experiences into performative gestures.

Artist Talk: Alexandra Bell, The Natural History Museum & Bayeté Ross Smith

Join us as we explore the relationship between truth-telling and strategic communication with artists Alexandra BellThe Natural History Museum [represented by Beka Economopoulos], and Bayeté Ross Smith. The conversation will be moderated by curator, Manon Slome. 


Truth-A-Thon with Black Lunch Table & Art+Feminism

Ever wanted to correct an article on Wikipedia? Join NLE for our first ever, Truth-a-Thon, where artists Heather Hart and Jina Valentine from the The Black Lunch Table (BLT), Sara Clugage from Art+Feminism, and members of Wikimedia will be on hand to lead a collective editing of articles of your choosing.


Truth is a Creative Process: A walking tour with Kamau Ware

Artist, Kamau Ware, will lead a collective storytelling tour that explores the relationship between the creative process and locating truth. Inspired by the work of the Black Gotham Experience, the artist will engage participants in a mobile conversation that brings to life the many creative strategies employed by artists in the exhibition.  


Shaun Leonardo - Testimony #2 Experiences of Migration

Thursday, March 8 | 6-8pm


Part two of Shaun Leonardo’s participatory performance will be open to the public, with a focus on experiences of migration.


Worker Rights Telenovela Screening with Gabriela Ceja

Saturday, March 10 | 4:30-6pm


In collaboration with members of the New Immigrant Community Empowerment Center (NICE), Gabriela Ceja together with a group of immigrant workers are using their imagination to create and promote immigrant workers stories in the form of self-produced novelas.
