Dread Scott and Kyle Goen

This collaborative effort reflects Dread Scott’s and Kyle Goen’s shared commitment to melding artistic practice with activism. Both artists work in a variety of mediums – painting, printing, installation, among others – to address themes of social justice and political struggle. “We are the 99%,” the ubiquitous political slogan coined in 2012 during the Occupy movement, references the inequitable concentration of wealth among the top earning 1% in the United States. Scott and Goen take the slogan a step further with their multi-lingual graphic prints, We are the 99% (English, Arabic and Spanish), to bring the Occupy movement into solidarity with the Arab Spring revolts across the Middle East and the popular uprisings in Europe.
