Fabienne Lasserre’s organic forms composed of raw wool applied directly to the wall, highlight the contrast between the warm materials of the artist and the industrial quality of the space. Lasserre started working with raw wool during a residency in Oaxaca, Mexico, where she learned how to process and dye the material using the local techniques. Growing out of the concrete wall, her installation presents notions of displacement and organic growth. The works operate between painting and sculpture, as representations of an “excluded middle” that does not neatly fit into existing categories.
